Nord Stream Project in the context of European energy security
Juříčková, Romana ; Horák, Slavomír (advisor) ; Šír, Jan (referee)
Bachelor thesis "Nord Stream Project in the context od European energy security is concerned with bulding a new pipeline to lin Russia directly to Western European Countries without a participation of transit countries on transportation of natural gas. First, Thesis explanes European energy policy which has recently responding to the growing consumption of natural gas in Europe and the dependece on Russia in gas supply. Then describes the possibilities for further diversification and expansion of existing resources and building new transport routes. The second main theme which is linked to the development European energy security is the Nord Stream pipeline. The paper provides basic informations about the project, about its beginning, its planned construction and about subjects which participate in it. Nord Stream may be regarded as a controversial project and the article explanes reasons. Finally it describes attitude of several European countries which are concerned in building the Nord Stream pipeline. Countries were selected in terms of attitude which they have toward the Nord Stream project. The text focused on the attitude of Russia and Germany as countries which bring the life of the project, promote it and find it beneficial, then on the attitude of Poland as a transit country which refuses the...
Energy security of European union: options to enhance it with an accent on renewable energy sources
Machytka, Daniel ; Jeníček, Vladimír (advisor) ; Němcová, Ingeborg (referee) ; Baláž, Peter (referee) ; Kučerová, Irah (referee)
This doctoral thesis focuses on Energy security of European Union with and accent on use of renewable energy sources as an energy security instrument. Main goal of this thesis was to identify, verify and then postulate options that could enhance current state of energy security of European Union. Main instrument of this activity is a theoretical model which introduces three specific options. First option is about off-grid and partially on-grid system used for home and autonomy energy production. Second option is a synergic link of infrastructure for off-shore wind farms with a marine energy. Third option is a maximization of energy efficiency, energy savings and energy storage concepts. Energy efficiency was identified as hierarchical condition mandatory for every single introduced options. All introduced options were verified against European energy law, against principles of energy security and against economical and security criteria. Final and most important criteria for plausibility of such options is embodied in European energy policy and current energy and climate strategies.
Nuclear energy and EU energy security
Ryzhenko, Maksym ; Bič, Josef (advisor) ; Vondrušková, Barbora (referee)
This diploma thesis is dedicated to the future development of nuclear energy in the EU area and its incorporation into the current EU energy policy. The work also focuses on a detailed examination of EU energy policy in terms of energy security of the Member States and throughout the text deals with the role of nuclear power as a determining factor of energy security. The work is divided into two parts - theoretical part (Chapter one) and research part (Chapter two and three). The first chapter of this thesis is devoted to current theoretical approaches to the issue of energy security. The issues of energy security are then examined in the final part of this chapter in terms of integration into the all-embracing EU energy policy. The second chapter provides an analysis of the current energy situation in the European Union as a whole and in individual Member States. All findings are applied with emphasis on the status of nuclear energy in the energy mix. The final chapter summarizes current nuclear energy trends in the EU. In addition, analysis of the opinion polls and government interventions in the field of nuclear energy are provided.
Potential of the European Neighbourhood Policy for EU energy security
Fráně, Luděk ; Dubský, Zbyněk (advisor) ; Sršeň, Radim (referee)
Relations between the EU and its neighbour countries and regions are very important for either side. One of the topics which joins them is the energy resource issue. Daily, millions of barrels of oil and billions of cubic meter of natural gas flow through this area into Europe. This diploma thesis deals exactly with this matter, e.i. European Union's energy security. It is a very topical, discussed but above all for the EU important theme. The purpose of this thesis is to connect the conception of EU's energy security through the European Neighbourhood Policy, e.i. the policy which the EU has established to create stability and prosperity with the neighbour regions of North Africa, Near East, Eastern Europe and the Caucasus states. The outcome of this paper should be to evaluate the potential of the countries in the European neighbourhood and the potential of the neighbourhood policy for strengthening the EU security policy, that means to summarize the possibilities for effective co-operation in the field of energy and to say if this co-operation could strengthen European Union's energy security.
